Ultrasound at 21 weeks
Today we did an ultrasound and an echo-cardiogram on the babies. Everything turned out to be fine. Thank God! The echo on both babies came back normal, as far as they can tell their hearts are normal, with all chambers, normal blood flow and formation.
They did a extremely detailed ultrasound and echo, that it took 3 hours, they've checked their hearts, kidneys, brains, heads, eyes sockets, skeletons, bones sizes, their weight, everything possible and all of these things came back normal. They are growing and developing well.
The only thing they found was that Nicholas has a Single Umbilical Artery. Most babies have 1 vein and 2 arteries and Nicholas has 1 vein and 1 artery and based on the information we got from the Radiologist, Pediatric Cardiologist and my Obstetrician this itself is NOT a problem. All babies need 1 vein and 1 artery to develop normally, so the second artery is kind of obsolete, the same blood flow circulates as if he had 2 arteries.
The only thing this means is that when they find that a baby has SUA it can be a sign or indicative that the baby has some kind of abnormally like on the heart, kidneys or head, but it is NOT determinant nor certain that the baby has anything wrong with him. All it means is that when a baby has SUA needs more testing to make sure everything else is okay.
And like all the doctors said SUA alone is NOT a problem, they checked both babies thoroughly with the Ultrasound and Echo-cardiogram and did NOT find anything wrong with them, so there is nothing to worry about. So far everything looks normal.
The next LONG ultrasound will be in 7 weeks, (I'll be 28 weeks pregnant) and they'll double check everything. We are very happy and excited that both babies are developing well. Nicholas weights 1 Lb and Nathalie is 13 ounces. They are growing nicely, especially for twins, their weight is correspondent to Singleton pregnancies!!!
Keep praying for us!!!
Thank you,
Juliana, Leonardo, Nathalie, Nicholas, Stitch and Oreo.
